Darr completes 30 years, Juhi Chawla says she was in awe of Yash Chopra

The Yash Chopra film Darr, turned 30 this December. The movie in which Shah Rukh Khan played an antagonist, also starred Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol. “Darr is one of the highlights of my career. One of the most important films I have done. Before Darr, I worked with Yash Chopra ji in Chandni, and it was just a tiny bit,” Chawla told Bollywood Hungama.

“Also, at that time, it was very rare that the directors or producers wrote their whole script before going into shooting. However, with Yash ji, both the films that I did whether it was Aaina or Darr they narrated the whole script to me! It was wonderful. I do have wonderful memories of working with Yash ji. I was very young at that time and was in awe of Yash ji,” she went on to say.

She also said she was thrilled when she got to know that Shah Rukh would be playing the antagonist in the film. However, it isn’t widely known that Aamir Khan was initially offered the role of the obsessive lover. The movie was a hit as the young audience took a liking towards Shah Rukh’s portrayal of the anti-hero.

Another lesser-known fact is that actor Sunny Deol did not get along with director Yash Chopra during the shoot of the film. Deol and Khan did not talk to one another for several years following the movie. They recently talked to one another when the former’s film Gadar 2 was released this year. Deol reportedly did not have a good time during the shoot and ripped off his jeans in anger due to an incident.
